Homeschooling- Back for More

Wow! I had started this blog with the intention of updating it on weekly basis. Somehow, there was never enough time. Homeschooling the first year was tough. I never felt like I was doing enough. Working part-time and trying to find a school schedule that worked never happened. Our days were constantly changing with very little I forgot he would be only in kindergarten. I tried out various curricula, planners, and schedules. I had a hard time with some and fell in love with others. Still, it never felt like enough. It is hard to let go of comparing our schooling to the government run schools. I don't know why. I am not one to believe that the government knows best.

That leads us into homeschooling the second year. I, once again, enrolled in the school lotteries in an attempt to get the children into a charter school. We did not win a spot. BUT, I did win another year to educate my kids at home. This year I am grateful for it. I did not want to "win".  My son, who would be starting 1st grade, is spelling at a second grade level, reading at a 4th grade level, and is mathematically in the middle of third grade. My daughter, who just turned 5, would be starting kindergarten. However, we are starting her off with first grade material. Both children took DORA and DOMA assessments and the results were compared to the new common core standards. Both are above where they should be. Although I am not a proponent of standardized testing, these assessments have made me feel more secure that we ARE doing enough. And doing it right.

I have several reviews to post and will be sharing them with you soon!

Time4Learning

I've been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion will be entirely my own, so be sure to come back and read about my experience. Time4Learning can be used as a homeschool curriculum, for afterschool enrichment and for summer skill sharpening. Find out how to write your own curriculum review for Time4Learning.
We are excited to see how the computer based learning will fit in will work for us.
